Children's home in Kochi |
Following our transitional year, our Kochi house can again call itself a children’s home.
We are in the process of becoming legally recognized as such, which among other things involves building an extension and a few home improvements. Following the rules of the Kerala Child Welfare Board, we will then be able to welcome up to 20 children in to the home.

Currently we have 7 boys, aged between 8 and 16, who are either orphans or who come from poor families of the region. The house is co-managed between Dil Se and 2 catholic nuns who also work in an orphanage for girls only (boys allowed until 8 years old).
The children are cared for by a nursery school teacher and her husband, an artist, who live in the home with their own two boys. They are responsible as much for the individual follow up of each child regarding school, social backgrounds, etc, as in all the homely activities: cooking, cleaning, washing and repairing clothes, and taking care of the children’s hygiene.
For the moment, we have decided to not send any volunteers to Kerala, to allow this new group to develop a family atmosphere.
We continue to have our AFIN (Aid to Families In Need) program, which promotes the reintegration of some children into their families or the possibility of training for some parents, a one-off help in a crisis or sponsorship of a child’s education.
