The Abbe Pierre (a French priest and champion of the poor) declared "this century will be fraternal or will not be". The challenge facing our technological world is surely to find a way of rediscovering humanity and simplicity. Humanity that is made up of small acts in our daily lives and that are dictated by our heartfelt values.
Faced with so many injustices DIL SE’s work seems to be but a drop in the ocean. Nevertheless, we act to the best of our abilities, and our objective will always be quality rather than quantity. Together, with each child or family we support, we look to better living conditions with the hope of a realistic, sustainable future.
Having realised the scale of the catastrophe, we are now very much engaged in the prevention of AIDS for the villagers in the region of Madurai. There is a growing number of young HIV+ widows who are rejected by all around them. Our aim is to support these women so that they and their children can live with dignity. We also want to inform a maximum number of people about what AIDS really is, so that transmission rates will diminish and the numerous taboos surrounding the disease will be demystified.
DIL SE dares to believe in a more equitable world where each human being can find his rightful place and where cultural diversity is valued and respected.
